Pushkar Singh Dhami is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. He was born on September 16, 1975, in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Dhami is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was appointed as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on July 4, 2021, following the resignation of Tirath Singh Rawat.

Dhami started his political career as a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the BJP. He later joined the BJP and was elected as a member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from the Khatima constituency in 2012 and 2017. He has also served as the President of the BJP’s youth wing in Uttarakhand.

As the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Dhami has been focused on developing the state’s tourism sector, improving healthcare infrastructure, and addressing the issue of unemployment. He has also taken steps to control the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

Early Life and Biography

Pushkar Singh Dhami was born on September 16, 1975, in the small town of Kanalichhina, located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. His parents, Sher Singh Dhami and Mrs. Vishna Devi were both schoolteachers.

Dhami received his primary education from a local school in Kanalichhina. He then moved to the city of Nainital to attend Birla Vidya Mandir, a prestigious residential school. He completed his higher secondary education at the same school.

After completing his education, Dhami joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He became actively involved in student politics and worked to promote the party’s ideology.

Dhami continued his association with the BJP even after completing his education. He held various positions within the party and worked tirelessly to strengthen its presence in Uttarakhand. He eventually rose through the ranks and was elected as a member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from the Khatima constituency in 2012 and 2017.

His father was in the Indian Army, so he had a passion for patriotism and national service from the very beginning. Pushkar Singh Dhami’s father was a Subedar in the Indian Army, his name is Subedar Sher Singh Dhami and his mother’s name is Mrs. Vishna Devi. Vishna Devi was a pious, soft-spoken, and responsible woman towards her family. Pushkar Singh Dhami was interested in scout guide, NCC, NSS, etc. in school and participated in them. He was interested in social work from the very beginning.

As a student leader, Dhami fought for the interests of the students by uniting the students at Lucknow University and giving them their rights which played an important role in the important change and operation of the education system. From here Dhami’s political qualities developed and made up his mind to go into politics.

Political Journey of Pushkar Singh Dhami

Pushkar Singh Dhami started his political journey with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. From the year 1990 to 1999, Dhami worked in various positions as a worker in Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad from district to state and national forum. During this time, as a state minister in different roles, he played a major role in coordinating and conducting the National Conference of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad held in Lucknow.

Well acquainted with the difficult conditions of Uttarakhand, Dhami closely observed and understood the local problems. After the formation of Uttarakhand, he served as OSD to former Chief Minister of the state Bhagat Singh Koshyari from 2001 to 2002.

Dhami was also the state president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha twice. Dhami strengthened his political identity by organizing huge rallies and conferences by gathering unemployed youth from place to place in Uttarakhand for six years from 2002 to 2008.

Pushkar Singh Dhami was first elected MLA from Khatima Vidhan Sabha in 2012 and elected MLA for the second time in 2017, since then is an MLA from the same Vidhan Sabha.

Pushkar Singh Dhami will take oath as the eleventh Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. After being elected the leader of the Uttarakhand Legislature, Pushkar Singh Dhami said that ‘My party has chosen a common worker. Together we will work for the welfare of the people. According to media reports, Pushkar Singh Dhami will take the oath of office and secrecy of the Chief Minister at 6 pm today.
